- Katie Couric joins U.Va.'s 2012 Graduates in a "Wahoowah!"
- Journalist Katie Couric bonds with the University of Virginia's 2012 graduates by joining in a "Wahoowah!," the University's celebrated cheer. As a 1979 U.Va. alum, it's easy for Couric to share the enthusiasm. She also shares some advice, telling graduates to prepare for the three 'Rs' -- risk, rejection and resilience. Graduates will need to take risks going forward, they will face rejection, and they must be resilient in continuing to forge ahead. In a particularly touching note, she mentions the resilience of Lynette Jones, a graduate in the College of Arts & Sciences, who is undergoing treatment for cancer. Lynette gets a huge round of applause from classmates, and she's clearly grateful that she's able to be part of today's ceremony and celebration.
