Lakers Ring Victory Bell After Sweeping Ohio State Buckeyes
SAULT STE. MARIE, Mich. - Lake Superior State took two points during the 4-4 tie and 2-1 shootout victory over Ohio State Saturday at Taffy Abel Arena and claimed five points during this weekend's series with the Buckeyes. The Lakers (14-11-5 overall and 9-9-4-4 Central Collegiate Hockey Association) are still undefeated in shootouts, improving to 4-0. The Lakers sit in fifth place in the CCHA with 35 points. Ohio State (14-8-5 overall, 10-7-5-1 CCHA) dropped to a tie for second place in the CCHA with 36 points. Only two points separate LSSU from the No. 1 team in the CCHA, Ferris State. The Buckeyes started the game with a power-play goal at 8:38 of the first period from Max McCormick. McCormick tallied a hat-trick against the Lakers, netting OSU's first three goals of the game. Junior forward Nick McParland (13-7--20) tied the game, 1-1, at 16:33 of the first period. Junior forward Domenic Monardo (9-15--24) and sophomore forward Kyle Jean (10-9--19) assisted on McParland's goal. With a second left on the clock in the first period, Ohio State's McCormick gave the Buckeyes a 2-1 lead. Monardo fired back with a power-play goal at 6:08 of the second period to tie the game 2-2. The defensmen pair of freshman Kevin Czuczman (2-10--12) and junior Zach Trotman (8-9--17) notched assists. LSSU took a 3-2 lead when sophomore forward Kellan Lain (7-3--10) netted a power-play goal from Monardo and Czuczman.
