UC Santa Barbara (UCSB)
The vast majority of students live within walking distance of their classes. Seven miles of bikeways link this close-knit academic community, giving students easy access to a rich array of social, cultural, academic, and athletic events.
As an institution, we are very much like many of our undergraduates: vibrant, energetic, and eager to begin the serious business of inventing the future. We are too young to be complacent, too excited by unfolding possibilities to retreat into ivy-covered towers.
The preeminent scholarship, instruction, and public service that define UCSB have helped shape our identity as a place of enormous and exceptional possibility - a magnet for innovation. In the humanities and the arts as well as in engineering and the sciences, UC Santa Barbara introduces students to novel ways of thinking, learning, and conducting research.
We hope you'll consider joining us on this intellectual adventure.

- 9999+UC Santa Barbara AdmissionsHi Dagmawi! Student here at UCSB can live on campus all four years if they prefer. However, most of our students live on campus for the first year or two and then move off campus. We have a very residential community. Most of our students live either on campus or within one mile of campus- this makes it very easy to get to and from class :)

- 9999+Hi Aleah, yes UCSB does accept AP credit! If you pass an AP test with a score of 3, 4, or 5, you will get credit towards graduation from UCSB! To see exactly how your AP tests will transfer to UCSB, please visit http://my.sa.ucsb.edu/Catalog/Current/UndergraduateEducation/APCreditandChart.aspx
- 9999+Additionally, AP classes can give you weighted credit in your GPA! However, at UCSB, we calculate your GPA a little bit differently than most high schools do. Please read more about our GPA calculation on our website at: http://www.admissions.ucsb.edu/SelectionProcess.asp?section=selectionprocess&subsection=eligibility&selectiontype=prospective_freshman
- 9999+If you have any further questions about these topics or others, please feel free to ask!

- 9999+Hi Karen, 50% of your admission decision is based on your GPA and SAT scores and the other 50% is based on extra-curricular involvement and the Personal Statement (the essays you have to write for the UC application).

- 9999+Hi Dydtyny, If you would like to attend UCSB, you will need to wait until your senior year of high school (during the month of November) to apply. As for right now, you should focus on keeping your grades up and getting involved with extra- curricular activities. This will help you be a stronger candidate for admission.
