Transylvania University
Transylvania University is a private, liberal arts university located in Lexington, Kentucky. Founded in 1780, "Transy" was the 16th college in the United States.
Though its name may conjure up visions of Dracula, "Transylvania" is Latin for "across the woods," which is the name given to the area when it was established in the 18th century.
Transylvania is located in the beautiful Bluegrass region of Kentucky, and has produced alumni who have impacted the musical, political, entertainment, and other spheres.
Approximately 1,100 students attend Transylvania, and the average class size is 17 students. Nearly two-thirds of Transy students study abroad.
The campus is home to many art displays, sporting events, and the annual Crimson Affair, which is a spring party that is the school's oldest campus-wide tradition.

- 9801Hi Kellie, Great question! One of the greatest aspects of being a student at Transylvania is the accessibility to study abroad. Nearly 70% of students study abroad at Transylvania and visit dozens of countries each year. Our Study Abroad Office provides the ability to build your own study abroad program to the country that you want to study in! So, if you're interested in Finland or Ireland, we can get you there. I recommend you check out our study abroad office's website at http://www.transy.edu/study_abroad/. Feel free to contact us if you have any questions. I'd love to put you in touch with your admissions counselor! - Laura

- 9801Hi Alexandra, If you're interested in pre-med, you're right, Transylvania may be a great fit for you! More than 90 percent of our students recommended by your Pre-Health Advisory Committee are admitted to medical school! This committee is provided to each pre-med student, which consists of faculty who are committed to helping you write personal statements, prepare for interviews, and gain admission to graduate schools. It's a very unique and popular program. In athletic, we are a NCAA Division 3 university, which means we are unable to provide athletic scholarships, but if you're interested in being recruited, you're more than welcome to visit our athletics website at www.transysports.com, click on 'Track & Field' and submit the 'For Recruits' questionnaire. It will go straight to the coaches for consideration. I hope this helps, and let me know if you need any additional information! - Laura

- 9801Hi Tianna, Thanks for the question! Transylvania University athletics is a member of the NCAA Division III Heartland Conference. As a D3 school, we do not offer athletic scholarships. But, it doesn't mean our students aren't involved! Nearly 350 student-athletes compete on at least one of our 18 intercollegiate athletic teams. When you include dancers, cheerleaders, and other support personnel, over 60 percent of our student body is involved in either varsity or recreational sports. We are also competitive, as Transylvania has won 27 conference championships over the past seven years! If you are interested in a specific sport, please feel free to contact me or your Transylvania admissions counselor and we can put you in contact with those involved with women's basketball. Let me know if you have any additional questions! Laura
