Transylvania University
Transylvania University is a private, liberal arts university located in Lexington, Kentucky. Founded in 1780, "Transy" was the 16th college in the United States.
Though its name may conjure up visions of Dracula, "Transylvania" is Latin for "across the woods," which is the name given to the area when it was established in the 18th century.
Transylvania is located in the beautiful Bluegrass region of Kentucky, and has produced alumni who have impacted the musical, political, entertainment, and other spheres.
Approximately 1,100 students attend Transylvania, and the average class size is 17 students. Nearly two-thirds of Transy students study abroad.
The campus is home to many art displays, sporting events, and the annual Crimson Affair, which is a spring party that is the school's oldest campus-wide tradition.

- 9785Hi Kellie, Great question! One of the greatest aspects of being a student at Transylvania is the accessibility to study abroad. Nearly 70% of students study abroad at Transylvania and visit dozens of countries each year. Our Study Abroad Office provides the ability to build your own study abroad program to the country that you want to study in! So, if you're interested in Finland or Ireland, we can get you there. I recommend you check out our study abroad office's website at http://www.transy.edu/study_abroad/. Feel free to contact us if you have any questions. I'd love to put you in touch with your admissions counselor! - Laura
