Thayer School of Engineering at Dartmouth

(Hanover, NH)

Thayer School of Engineering at Dartmouth offers a single unified department of engineering sciences that brings together faculty with expertise in a range of engineering and science disciplines. Students are mentored by teachers who are not only experts in one or more fields but also generalists who can envision solutions that cut across traditional disciplines.
The Dartmouth engineer is a balanced, versatile thinker who studies engineering, but not only engineering. Our students can define a problem, place it within the broad social and economic contexts, and articulate a clear vision for the solution. Because their skills can be adapted across disciplines, Dartmouth engineers can more easily stay at the forefront as technology advances, and have the option of applying their problem-solving skills to other career paths.

Students who thrive here tend to have additional interests outside of engineering (who want room to explore other interests, or to combine other interests with engineering); also those who aren't afraid to dive in and get their hands dirty (we'll teach you how!) and those with strong communication and teamwork skills and who are looking for some personal attention from faculty. A love for nature and the outdoors helps too!
