Sweet Briar College

(Sweet Briar, VA)

Sweet Briar College IS different.

We're only for women. If you ask our students why they chose Sweet Briar, they'll talk about the academics, the beautiful campus, the welcoming community, the opportunities to get involved and to lead. Few, if any, will say they chose Sweet Briar because it's a women's college. Yet, many of our distinctive programs and opportunities are a direct result of our single-gender focus.

By specializing in the education of remarkable women, we're more in tune with you as a student and as a person. We provide leadership opportunities and strong academic programs - in the sciences, math, pre-medicine, pre-veterinary medicine and government for example - that typically cater to men at other schools.

is there a application fee? And if I am not VA resident, will the tuition cost more for me to go there?
      • 1895
Hi Joanna! Glad you are interested in Sweet Briar. Sweet Briar does have an application fee of $40. If you visit campus though, we will be happy to waive the fee. Tuition is the same for in-state and out-of-state students. We try very hard to work with students and families to help make a Sweet Briar education affordable. Hope this helps. Stay in touch! Best, Gretchen

How's your pre-vet program? Do you offer hands-on experience? Are there any special requirements for homeschoolers, of which I am one?
          • 1895
Hi Grace, Sweet Briar offers an excellent pre-vet program. The acceptance rate is practically 100% into vet school and the pre-vet advisory program helps prepare you from your very first day at SBC. Our science students have access to state-of-the-art equipment, research experience and conference presentation experience. I think you will be most impressed with our program! We like to meet with homeschool students to learn more about your curriculum, but there are not special requirements. We find that homeschool students are very prepared and excel at Sweet Briar. I hope this helps and please keep in touch! Best, Gretchen

Grace, Hello! We have a wonderful pre- vet program here at SBC. It is one of our three year pre- professional programs, in which you would obtain your B.S. degree -- Bachelor's of Science. Yes, you can! Sweet Briar actually has one of the best pre-vet programs in the country, with a 100% acceptance rate into Vet schools after graduation. You can check out the program page here: http://www.sbc.edu/biology/pre-health-pre-vet. You might also be interested to know that Sweet Briar has an Equine Studies Certificate that some girls I knew coupled with their pre-vet studies so that they'd be fully prepared for a career in equine health and management: http://www.sbc.edu/riding/courses-instruction. Because we offer a nationally recognized equestrian program with exceptional facilities there are several opportunities for hands on learning experience in a variety of different fields-- stable management, horse care! I understand that you are home schooled and would love to chat with you in depth about any additional requirements you may need. As your SBC admissions counselor I am thrilled to help you learn about our academic programs and requirements. Please feel free to give me a call or send me an email anytime. Thank you, Grace. Hope to talk soon:)

Anna, it's fantastic that you're so excited and ready to apply. Choosing the right college is a difficult decision and you're already ahead of many, but it's still a bit too early. Like most colleges, we don't accept applications until senior year. There are many reasons involved, but one of them is that we want to be able to see the big picture of your school performance and activities, and sophomore year is so early that we'd miss out on all that you'll be doing in the next two years. Don't worry, though, we'll be here, and in a couple of years, I'd be excited to see your application arrive! Until then, don't hesitate to ask as many questions as you like, and come visit if you haven't already. Take care!
