- 1531Hi Yuncheol! Generally, a TOEFL score of 590 (or 243 on computer-based administration, or 96-97 on Internet-based administration) is regarded as an indicator of minimal proficiency for study at Skidmore. You can find more information about applying as an international student on the our Web site here: http://cms.skidmore.edu/admissions/international/applying.cfm. Hope that helps! Daniella

- 200Hi Eric! I'm not sure about the exact process of joining SGA (our Student Government Association) but YES, it is possible for non-theater majors to take part in the theater productions at Skidmore. General auditions for shows happen once at the beginning of each semester and everyone is welcome to audition. Non-majors can also take The Theater Company class; it's a one-credit course that lets you participate in talk-backs with cast members after performances and take part in behind-the-scenes stuff like set design, carpentry, costumes, makeup, working at the box office, ushering, publicity, and running crew. (I did it my freshman year and it was great!). Plus there are lots of theater-esque performing groups on campus like Cabaret Troupe and AIDS Benefit that have nothing to do with the academic department but still put on cool shows. Hope this helped with one half of your query. Thanks for asking!
- 150Yes, all of the above. I was gonna snag this one, but MOB already did. Ugh. Anyway, I'm a theatre major. The assistant director for our studio production last semester is a senior who is finishing up her French and something else major. I'm not sure what the something else is, but it's not theatre. Either way, it's very very easy for non-majors to make theatre on campus and freshman are frequently cast. Last semester, I was cast in a workshop production and had the opportunity to direct a one-woman show for AIDS Benefit. This semester, I was cast in an experimental piece of theatre and am directing a senior project and another show for AIDS Benefit. So 'tis very easy to get involved with theatre. Do theatre pre-or and register for theatre company when you sign up for classes over the summer, Fridays 2:30 to 3:30. None of the other schools I looked at had any sort of class where the entire department came together and I think theatre company is the highlight of my week. Ya get to see everyone you haven't seen all week and it's just great.
- 86OK, Thank you both so much for your help and the Theater Company class sounds really interesting; I'll definitely try to take it if I go.

- 200Hey Samantha! It really depends on the class. I've taken a lot of different courses over the past 3.5 years (English, French, economics, history) and a lot of it depends on the professor and their teaching style. But in general I'd say classes lean toward more the discussion side. Part of a good liberal arts education! That being said, my Intro to Neuroscience class was mostly a lecture because we were all neuro newbies and needed a lot of professorial guidance. (Then we could talk/discuss during our lab time.) In conclusion: lots of discussion, and lectures when necessary! Thanks for your question.

- 1531Hi again Samantha! Yes, Skidmore has a student ID card like most other colleges and universities. Students (and their parents) are able to deposit money onto their cards for school supplies, books, etc. For more information about the ID cards, check out the card office Web page: http://cms.skidmore.edu/card/. Thanks!
- 78Yeah! We have our Skidmore ID cards. Skid ID's are connected to a declining balance account. Generally you, your parents, or your guardians will put money on the card (which can be done online through the Skidmore Card Office's website). Then, you uses it just as you would a debit card from the bank. This is what you use for laundry, book, supplies, and food. You can also track your spending at the online card office site. There are also programs where you can pay for money only good at places that accept Skid ID. This includes any on-campus dinning, but also businesses downtown that have agreed to accept Skid ID.

- 200Yes, on-campus housing is guaranteed for all four years. Skidmore is very much a residential campus, and just around 90% of students live on campus.

- 200Hi Samantha, that's a great question! In terms of financial aid received at the beginning of your first year, your high school GPA isn't a factor. The financial aid package is determined by filling out the FAFSA and CSS profiles -- it's about your demonstrated financial need, not your high school grades. Then once you're at Skidmore, generally the GPA requirement is the same as the one you need in order to meet Skidmore's standards for "minimum satisfactory academic progress" -- I'm pretty sure that's a 2.0 cumulative average. So staying in good academic standing will ensure your financial aid will also stay the same. Thanks for your Q!
