* An original essay on the following topic: "Why is free expression through independent media important?" Essay must be 300-500 words.
* Completed entry form with sponsoring teacher's signature.
* Entries must be mailed to a participating chapter. Essays will not be accepted by fax or email.
Eligibility:
All students enrolled in grades 9-12 in public, private and home schools.
Purpose:
The Society of Professional Journalists wants to increase high school students' knowledge and understanding of the importance of independent media to our lives. National winners of this essay contest receive scholarship awards.
