Alumni include self-help guru Dr. Phil McGraw; Larry McMurtry, Oscar winning co-author of the screen adaptation for Brokeback Mountain and author of many novels including The Last Picture Show and the Pulitzer Prize-winning Lonesome Dove; six journalism alumni with eight Pulitzers among them; recording artists Pat Boone, Don Henley, Roy Orbison, Sara Hickman, Lyle Mays, “Blue” Lou Marini and multiple Grammy winner Norah Jones; former Miss America and entrepreneur Phyllis George; and Horatio Alger Award winner Ronald Waranch.

Alumna Corinna Bejarano Wright, a senior designer at Williamson-Dickie Manufacturing, spent many years designing the unique styles of Big Tex, the State Fair of Texas’ official greeter. The 52-foot cowboy has a 120-inch neck and 186-inch sleeve length.
