The UNC at Wilmington is a public, comprehensive university. Founded in 1947 as a two-year institution, it became a four-year university in 1963 and joined the state system in 1969. Its 661-acre campus, with buildings of modified Georgian design, is located in the southeastern part of the state, 10 to 15 miles from several Atlantic coast beaches.

Acclaimed Latin dance company CONTRA-TIEMPO provided a two-week educational and community residency in 2010, hosted by the University of North Carolina Wilmington. In addition to performances, master classes and free salsa workshops, the visit will include an in-school artist residency at Bradley Creek Elementary School.

Tidal Creek Co-op hosted a ribbon cutting with UNC Wilmington on Wednesday, May 16, 2012 to celebrate the opening of a driveway that connects the market to an adjacent lot owned by UNCW.
