• I am one of two representatives from my school that participate in this program. It is highly competitive to get in. Once a month, we meet at various locations with 38 other students from across the county participating in activities and listening to activities that are designed to strengthen our leadership skills.

• This is an event sponsored by the local community college to set talented students up with scholarship. A teacher nominates you for a subject they believe you excel in, and then you travel to that college on a school say and take a test in that subject. If you make the best you are rewarded with a scholarship. Consolation prizes are offered for 2nd and 3rd places. My 10th grade year, I was nominated for World History, English, and Biology, and this year, I was nominated for English, US History, World History, and Chemistry. I attended my 10th grade year and took World History, while this year, I will take English.

• This Council is highly selective and comprised of 28 students from across the county. We were chosen because through application and interview, we demonstrated optimal leadership and service skills.

• An all-girl club at school formed to expose young girls to multiple different cultures and opportunities. It was formed to encourage girls to not let their situations, up-bringing, and where they come from affect their future.

• I coordinated the first Teens for Jeans Drive at my high school. I made signs, raised awareness, and sent out messages and events on Facebook to spread the word. I also took all the jeans to the drop-off point at Aeropostale, which was a sponsor. About 175 pairs of jeans were collected.

• We participate in MANY different volunteer activities. We recently collected used cell phones for a shelter, led a canned food drive, lead Pets on Parade, and did telephone surveys for the local newspaper. And we're only 1 month in!
