Michigan State, founded in 1855, is a comprehensive, land-grant, public university. Programs are offered through the Colleges of Agriculture and Natural Resources, Arts and Letters, Communication Arts and Sciences, Education, Engineering, Human Ecology, Natural Science, Nursing, Osteopathic Medicine, Social Science, and Veterinary Medicine; Eli Broad College of Business; and James Madison College. Its 5,315-acre campus is located in East Lansing, 80 miles northwest of Detroit.
