As a graduate of Gilbert High School in Arizona and an incoming freshman at Arizona State University, I have been interested in Japanese language and culture since junior high. As such, it is no wonder my foreign language study of choice in high school was Japanese. It did not take me long to realize that I wanted to pursue a career in the language; I am looking into translation, interpretation, or teaching English in Japan. Aside from my linguistic pursuit, I am active in the arts. I love to draw and write and have no objection to reading as long as I have a good book.
Extracurricular
- Japanese Anime Club
- Anime club meets twice a week to watch Japanese animation films and series -- often in it's original Japanese language.
- Japanese Tutors
- Japanese tutors gather once a week after school to be available to fellow students struggling with learning the foreign language.
- "Insight" Literary Magazine
- Insight Club encourages artistic expression in school hosting biannual talent shows and publishing the school's literary magazine.
- volunteered at elementary school library
- Worked at elementary school behind high school after school on Mondays, Tuesdays, and Thursdays. Helped to shelve books, clean, and do other misc chores for the librarian.
- National Honor Society Tutoring
- Wednesday and Thursday during lunch I made myself available in the high school library for NHS tutoring services.
- Japanese Anime Club - Vice President
- The vice president of Anime Club is an elected official and is responsible for the day-to-day running of the club as well as the club's participation in school activities including the homecoming parade, club fair, and freshman preview night.
