McNeese State is a public, comprehensive university. Founded as a two-year division of Louisiana State University in 1939, it gained university status in 1970. Programs are offered through the Colleges of Business, Education, Engineering and Technology, Liberal Arts, Nursing, and Science. Its 171-acre campus is located in Lake Charles, 80 miles west of New Orleans.
