Lawrence University

(Appleton, WI)

A Different Kind of University Liberal Arts College + Conservatory = Lawrence UniversityLawrence University is an internationally renowned college of liberal arts and sciences and a conservatory of music, both devoted exclusively to undergraduate education. (Some people mistakenly think that, because we're a "university," we must have graduate students; you won't find any in our classes-or teaching them, for that matter. Lawrence is a "university" because it combines both a college and a conservatory, home to about 75 percent and 25 percent of our student population, respectively.)Where else but Lawrence will you find: student and faculty speaking German together at a weekly Kaffeeklatsch on Saturday afternoons? The world's longest running trivia contest? College Democrats and College Republicans who speak to each other? A Battle Games Association and Amnesty International? A campus community fed in part by a SLUG (the Sustainable Lawrence University Garden)? Come to a Convocation and you'll learn from the likes of Salman Rushdie, Maya Angelou, Lech Walesa and Cornel West. Hear world-class music (at small-town prices) from Wynton Marsalis, Yo-Yo Ma, Jane Monheit and Susan Graham. Join your classmates to fight homelessness through Shack-a-thon. Mentor local kids. Support your friends at music recitals. Cheer yourself hoarse at a basketball game. The biggest challenge will be fitting 25 hours of stuff into 24 hours.
