FollowI am a peace-seeking Christ follower.
I work as an admissions counselor at EMU- Eastern Mennonite University, located in the Shenandoah Valley in Virginia. We are a small University, (which means you won't be just a number to us) located in a city (which means you'll have easy access to many fun activities, local restaurants, etc) surrounded by the beautiful countryside (which provides all types of outdoor activities including camping, biking, hiking, skiing, rock climbing and kayaking!)
Not sure about Mennonites? In reality, less than half of our students are actually Mennonites. What we stand for is what is important- we seek peace and justice, promote environmental sustainability, and have a strong sense of community and service. That means you will not disappear on our campus. With under 1,000 undergrad students, you will really matter to our campus life, and will have the opportunity to be involved in anything you wish- sports, music, theatre, clubs, planning student life activities, etc.
One exciting aspect of EMU is that we work to develop global leaders, which means we send you abroad during your time here! Right now, many of our students are in the Middle East. This past summer, we organized trips to Honduras and Costa Rica. Other popular cross-cultural (our way of saying "study abroad") options are India and South Africa. Great news: our semester-long cross-cultural trips are included in your tuition!
Worried about the cost of a private college? About 90% of our students qualify for an academic scholarship, based solely on your GPA and SAT or ACT scores. These scholarships range from 4,000-12,500 per year. Nearly 100% of our students receive financial aid of some sort.
Our placement rates post-graduation are OUTSTANDING! 98% of our graduates are employed (working in their field of study, engaged in service or further study) within 12 months of graduation. And 85% of EMU students who apply to medical school are accepted. 97% of our Nursing students pass their boards on the first try.
Don't take my word for it, thought- come visit us! Call 800-368-2665 to set up a campus visit. We can arrange to pick you up at the airport, if necessary!
