Keren Copperman
Follow messageMy name's Keren, which means "ray of light" or "shine" in Hebrew. I believe I live up to it pretty well. One of my number one priorities is just to radiate love and kindness to all those around me. Love is very important to me. You know, the feeling in the air when you just know that something is special today, that makes you want to jump for joy because you just love life that much. I've been through some really tough times. But I am a living testament to the saying, "with every fall you get up stronger."

- Aliyah Anonymous
- 2010 to Now
- Aliyah Anonymous is not only the highlight of my high school years and my time in Israel, but also my greatest life accomplishment. Upon making Aliyah (the act of immigrating to Israel) in 2005, in the 7th grade, I encountered difficulties beyond anything that I had ever imagined. While I did eventually overcome these obstacles and emerge a stronger and better person, my heart broke each time I would meet a new immigrant who was going through the social and societal isolation that I was so familiar with. I knew, plain and simple, that I had to do something -- and so Aliyah Anonymous was born. As can be learned on our website, http://aliyahanonymous.org, Aliyah Anonymous is a youth organization aiming to help all teenage immigrants to Israel feel comfortable in their new country and ease the strains and hardships that general follow the big transition. We meet on Thursday nights once a week, and hold one "larger" event or activity each month. I am in charge of absolutely everything related to this group, from the very first steps of establishment to funding to planning the weekly meetings to advertising. It is my duty and my pride and pleasure to actively hear from new participants what a positive affect Aliyah Anonymous is having on their lives, as these are teenagers who do not speak Israeli's native Hebrew and are suffering in all fields as a result. At Aliyah Anonymous, these teens can be themselves without having to mold themselves to be the perfect Israelis that are expected of them. The smiles of satisfaction that I see from both the participants and parents are the greatest rewards that I could ever ask for.

- Employer: ModiInfo Publications Industry: Media/Journalism/Communications Description: ModiInfo Publications is the only English-language magazine catering to the Anglo population of Modi'in, Israel (population 76,000). As part of my work for ModiInfo, I scour the local Hebrew media daily (newspapers, websites, magazines, etc) in search of news articles relevant to ModiInfo's English-speaking readers. Once I find an "item," it is my job to translate it and post it on the magazine's website. I am also in charge of maintaining and updating the company's Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, and Blogger accounts, and of communicating with potential advertisers and partners. I often answer public inquiries to the magazine, and use my computer, Hebrew, and people skills to bring ModiInfo to stand at the best place that it can in the community. Through my work at ModiInfo, I successfully connect the company and my employers to the online world.

I also feel that I am talented in organizing and coordinating different projects, as my resume shows. I am the kind of person that actually enjoys putting together programs and events, and I cannot describe the feeling of satisfaction that I receive when I see how my actions have influenced other people for the better.
I also speak fluent English and Hebrew, both on a native level, and treasure each and every new person that I meet. I believe that each new person that I encounter is a blessing and an opportunity to make a new friend and learning something, which is why I treat all people with equality, enthusiasm, and respect.
