What would you say is more important for a student to have in order to get accepted at Ithaca: GPA/course load or SAT/ACT scores?
  • 380
Hi Julia, Thanks for your question. Your transcript-both the courses you have taken and the grades you have received are given the most weight during the application review process. The review committee will also evaluate your SAT or ACT scores, at least one recommendation letter, and your Common Application (including your essay, extracurricular activities, and short answer response.) Keep in touch with any other questions. Best Regards,Cynthia (cwilliams@ithaca.edu)

Are there ways that the tuition to Ithaca can actually be affordable??
    • 380
Hi Lorie, I would recommend calling the Office of Admission to have a conversation about merit scholarships and the Office of Student Financial Services about need-based financial aid. By having a conversation, we can tailor the information to you specifically. However, I can provide some more general information here, as well. Just by applying to Ithaca College, students will automatically be considered for merit aid that ranges from $5,000 to $16,000. When students apply for need-based aid, by completing the FAFSA and CSS Profile, they will also be considered for grants, loans, and work study options. Over 90% of our students receive some type of aid and there are many factors that determine a students final cost at Ithaca College. To contact the Office of Admission, call 1800-429-4274 http://www.ithaca.edu/admission/contact/ To contact the Office of Student Financial Services, call 1800-429-4275 http://www.ithaca.edu/finaid/ You can also complete the Student Net Price Calculator on line to explore your eligibility for aid at Ithaca College. Please keep in mind the information you provide will directly impact the accuracy of the information the Net Price Calculator provides: https://ithaca.studentaidcalculator.com/survey.aspx Please keep in touch with any other questions. Best Regards, Cynthia

What is student life like at Ithaca? What are some activities that happen campus-wide and what are dorms like?
    • 82
Hey Mary! My apologies for the late reply. Now, there are so many activities that happen on campus. We have a great school of music that has free concerts almost every day. Our theatre school is also really good and also puts on shows through out the year. Different clubs will also often out on events like plays, open mikes, spoken word poetry as well as community service activities. There is an irganization that puts on free holiday events like a haunted maze for halloween and a dating game show hosted by our school's President for valentine's day. There are also lot's of visiting speakers and lectures that are free as well. There is so much more I can't remember but it's definitely not boring!

On dorms, are you asking specifically how dorm rooms are set up or are you asking about dorm life? I can answer either! :D

      Both please! Thanks!

Hi Mary! For more information on residential life at Ithaca, I recommend visiting http://www.ithaca.edu/reslife/guide/ and browsing information about our different housing options here http://www.ithaca.edu/reslife/halls/. Ithaca has tons of options, including specialty housing -- so there really is something for everyone!

      What is aesthetic appreciation?
      • 42
"The Aesthetic Appreciation experience provides each student with the opportunity to develop a “path” that “elevates the human spirit and affirms connection of the individual to a larger cultural context, not limited to but often expressed as a work of art.” The definition that is the basis for the approach taken here comes from John Dewey’s Art of Experience and holds that aesthetic appreciation can be developed through multiple ways not limited to what are considered traditional areas of the arts. Structured experiences built around designated “art events” are the first tier in developing aesthetic sensibility, and “open” experiences provide broader options. One from a list of support courses will also be required. A final aesthetic appreciation reflective essay will be required and entered in the student’s Learning ePortfolio. A number of methodologies will be incorporated in these various learning experiences." Find more info here: http://www.ithaca.edu/provost/docs/coreexperience/CETFfinalreport/

Ithaca College has 5 Schools: Business, Communications, Health Sciences and Human Performance, Humanities and Sciences, and Music. Many students choose IC because they can major in one area and minor is something completely different. You can also start undecided in the Exploratory Program. There are over 200 student organizations on campus (and yes, there is a competitive Equestrian Team.)

Would you say that your music program is more jazz or classically affiliated?
      • 1917
I am good at classical piano!
      • 380
Hi Bailley and Pedro, the School of Music at Ithaca College provides a classical base for all students. There is an option to study Jazz; however students would then be taking both classical and jazz lessons. For the audition, students will still perform a classical piece and in addition, perform a jazz piece for a professor. Keep in touch with any other questions, Cynthia
