Helen Collins
Follow messageI'm one of those kids who never really fit in with one group or clique. I'm not very athletic. I get straight a's and actually enjoy school (when the subject is interesting.) I'm always up for trying something new. I hate to turn down a challenge. Sometimes, when I'm walking down the street, I pick up trash that I see on the ground. I'm into anything artsy; sketching, music, film, anything to used to express myself. I can sometimes be caught dancing around my room, where no one can see. I spend way too much time staring off into space, framing new ideas in my head. I want to change the world!
Extracurricular
- Forensics
- When I first started middle school, I didn't know what I would do as far as extracurriculars. My parents encouraged me to go out for the forensics team, a club that prepared for public speaking. Participants choose a dramatic monologue or story and perfor
- Orchestra
- I have been playing the violin since I was 8-years-old. I love the sound that the violin makes. I was able to join my school's orchestra in my 5th grade year and have stuck with it through middle school and high school.
- School Yearbook
- I enjoy the challenge of fitting together substance and arts. Its fun to put text and photos together in a way that looks nice and also informs. I love that I get to be a part of something everyone will enjoy and remember.
- Community Theatre
- I recently became interested in performing in plays. I auditioned for some productions that I saw advertised with my friends. I have now been in two plays and I love it! I plan on trying out for more plays this summer.
- Global Awareness Club
- I, a group of other students, and our public speaking teacher organized a hunger awareness dinner that raised over 3000 dollars for impoverished children who are assisted by Etta Projects, in Bolivia.
- Feed My Starving Children
- My church youth group and other youth groups filled bags with rice, protien product, processed chicken, and vegetables, that were sent to impoverished countries, each feeding one family for a day.
- Organizer of School Blood Drive
- I organized the list for when people signed up during the day to get their blood drawn and I supervised as people came in and filled out the necessary forms.
- People to People Student Ambassador Program
- I and 31 other students spent 3 weeks of our summer traveling from Rome to Madrid as a part of a national organization built on the purpose of promoting peace and understanding. We stayed with a French host family for 3 days, tasted local cuisine, viewed
