Harvey Mudd College

(Claremont, CA)

Harvey Mudd College is a private liberal arts school that offers 9 majors in math, the physical and biological sciences, and engineering.

It chose to be a liberal arts school to fulfill its mission of giving its students perspective on the impact their science has on the wider world, to get away from narrow technical training. Students in every major are given a solid grounding in the humanities and social sciences, and benefit from a stellar student-to-faculty ration of less than 9:1.

Harvey Mudd has struck on a balance that works. It was recently voted the nation's 5th Happiest College, and 99% of its students choose to live on campus, just a short drive from the cultural events of Los Angeles, the beach, and the mountains.
