Hello! I take advanced placement classes and I just recently took the advanced placement exams for Biology and Language and Compostion. If I make qualifying scores will I be required to take those classes at Duke, if I am accepted. Thank you for your time.

Dear Deja: Students who score a 4 or a 5 on an AP exam can use those scores for placement and sometimes for credit at Duke. Obviously, we would not have a student take Intro to Psychology if they had already proven they had understood the material. For more information about our academic options, please click on the www.duke.edu link at the left-hand side of this Zinch page. Sue Coon, Duke Admissions

Duke has a rep of being hard to get into! What can I do (besides great grades and extra activities) to get in or even noticed?
    • 819
Dear Megan: Thanks for your interest in Duke! I would encourage you to follow your passions, in academics and in extracurricular activities. You will also want to consider applying Early Decision, when we admit around 25% of those who apply, as opposed to Regular Decision, when we admit around 11% of those who apply. I am a junior and i have heard great things about Duke. What i am interested in however is the class sizes. what is the greatest number of students in YOUR classes, and what is the least?
      • 344
Hey Justina: All first year students take 2 seminar classes (15-18 students) their first year. Any larger lecture classes also have weekly review sessions of 20 students each. Nearly 80% of our classes have 20 students or fewer.

I am a sophomore, and have been interested in Duke University for a very long time. I am interested in going into the medical field, or criminal investigation. What programs does Duke University have for those fields?
      • 344
Hey Auriel: Duke is a great place to begin a career in the medical field; in fact, the Office of Health Professions Advising works with students to prepare them in fields ranging from pharmacy to podiatry, and you can see what they're up to here: http://prehealth.duke.edu/. If you are considering a career in law enforcement or investigation, you can seek breadth in your undergraduate course program along with specialization in one or more areas, and you can choose a major on the basis of your interests or an area that will help you work in a particular area of law.
