Official Chegg For Good “Double Your Money” Scholarship Rules 2013


OVERVIEW: Chegg, and its subsidiary Zinch, through the Chegg for Good initiative, have set aside $50,000 to be distributed through a scholarship matching program (the "Program") where Chegg will match dollar-for-dollar any eligible scholarship award that you (a registered Zinch user), or a friend you refer to Zinch, (a) locate, (b) apply for, and (c) mark as applied through Zinch, (d) that you or your friend is awarded, and (e) you apply for available “double” scholarship award money by notifying Chegg for Good at “ Matching scholarship awards will be issued on a first-come, first-serve basis, based upon the date and time of your email notification to for the “Double Your Money” Scholarship until the $50,000 is gone. If the $50,000 threshold is reached, a partial matching award may occur in one instance. For purposes of establishing priority in entitlement to matching scholarship monies, the scholarship winner shall take priority over the Friend of the scholarship winner.

PROGRAM DURATION: The Program begins on January 1st, 2013 at 12:00:01 a.m. Mountain Standard Time (MST) and will end when the last of $50,000.00 in scholarship award money has been distributed through this Program ("Promotion Period"), or December 31, 2013 at 11:59pm, whichever comes first. Chegg reserves the right to change the beginning date of the Program.

Chegg for Good will match, dollar-for-dollar, one Eligible Scholarship (defined below) that you, an Eligible Participant, find on Zinch, and mark that you have applied for on Zinch, indicate that you have applied for, win, claim, and which Zinch verifies that you actually received(each a "Matching Award"), up to a maximum of $1,000.

ENTRY METHOD: To enter, you, an Eligible Participant as defined herein, find Eligible Scholarship(s) listed on Zinch. Click the “Like” button next to the Eligible Scholarship's description. Once you have applied for the Eligible Scholarship, mark the box labeled “I Applied” to indicate that you have applied for the Eligible Scholarship. This must be done before the scholarship deadline has passed as indicated on Zinch. Zinch timestamps the date on which you marked that you applied for each Eligible Scholarship. If the date on which you marked that you applied is later than the scholarship deadline listed on Zinch, you will be ineligible to receive a Matching Award under the Program for that particular scholarship if awarded to you. Awards marked as "I Applied" must be timestamped in accordance to the corresponding school year of the scholarship's offering. For example, if you are apply for "Scholarship X" which is being offered for the 2013-2014 school year, the date for that timestamp must be within the 2013-2014 school year and before that scholarship's listed deadline.

Next, you must win one of these marked scholarships, and notify Chegg of this fact by sending an email to In this email, you must provide the following information:

ο Your Zinch or Chegg username;
ο The scholarship name;
ο Scholarship award amount
In order to verify eligibility for the scholarship, Zinch may require the following documentation upon request:
ο Transcript from their current school; and
ο Proof that they have won the scholarship in the form of a copy of the letter of award from the scholarship provider.

PARTICIPANT ELIGIBILITY: The Program is open to legal residents of the 50 United States and the District of Columbia, who are: (1) at least 16 years of age, (2) a registered user on with a profile above 50% complete, (3) currently enrolled in high school or an accredited college or university, as listed on the U.S. Department of Education website, available at, intending to be enrolled in such a college or university in the next 12 months and (4) have a cumulative grade point average of at least 2.0 on a 4.0, un-weighted scale ("Eligible Participant"). The Program is void in Puerto Rico, all U.S. territories and possessions and where prohibited by law. Entries must be from individuals only; groups, organizations and multiple-party entries are not eligible. The Program is governed by United States law and is subject to all applicable federal, state and local laws and regulations.

SCHOLARSHIP ELIGIBILITY: Chegg only grants Matching Awards to Eligible Participants who are awarded scholarships by one or more of the non-profit, non-government organizations listed on Zinch ("Eligible Scholarship"); for clarity this means scholarships provided by for-profit organizations and/or government agencies are not eligible for a Matching Award. If a scholarship is provided by a non-profit entity of a for-profit organization, the non-profit entity must be registered as a 501(c)(3) in order to qualify as an Eligible Scholarship. Chegg does not match scholarships that Zinch or any other Chegg company itself provides, including, but not limited to, March Madnezz, Ammunition for Tuition, Weekly Three-Sentence Essay, Transfer Student Scholarship, and the Super Student Stimulus. Chegg does not match grants, awards, fellowships, loans, forgivable loans, or internships. Chegg only matches Eligible Scholarships. Chegg matches only the first Eligible Scholarship that an Eligible Participant applies for during 2013, and that one match is limited to a maximum of $1,000. The status of an award as a scholarship, grant, award, fellowship, loan, forgivable loan or internship is clearly marked on the scholarship listings at Zinch.

CLAIMING YOUR AWARD: All awards are subject to verification by Zinch. When you win an Eligible Scholarship that you had timely indicated on Zinch that you applied for, email and provide Zinch the following information:

ο Your Zinch username;
ο The scholarship name;
ο Scholarship award amount.
In order to verify eligibility for the scholarship, Zinch may require the following documentation upon request:
ο Transcript from their current school; and
ο Proof that they have won the scholarship in the form of a copy of the letter of award from the scholarship provider.
No awards will be granted until Zinch is able to verify with the scholarship provider that you or your Friend received the Eligible Scholarship.

LIMITATIONS ON AWARDS: Matching awards will vary and will depend on the amount of the verified Eligible Scholarship award the participant or Friend has received. Prizes will be awarded on a first-come, first-serve basis until the $50,000 in scholarship prize money has been depleted. If the last Matching Award is for an amount that would cause the sum of all Zinch matching awards to exceed $50,000, Zinch will match partially amount, up to an aggregate $50,000 total for all matching awards. A participant meeting all the criteria to receive a Matching Award may receive multiple Matching Awards subject to the following limitations. If the participant has received or is receiving funds from a source other than immediate or extended family, including, but not limited to, scholarships, grants, military funds under a G.I. Bill or otherwise that in the aggregate will cover the entirety of the participant's tuition and books for the student's 2012-2013 and/or later academic years, the participant will be ineligible to receive any Matching Award under the Program. If the participant's tuition is covered by other sources, then Zinch will one time, match funds for the purchase of books up to $500. To the extent any award has been extended to such a student prior to Zinch's discovery of such funds, the participant, or the educational institution who received the award on behalf of the participant, will immediately remit the Matching Award to Zinch upon request. Matching Awards will be paid out in the same order in which Zinch receives notification emails indicating that an Eligible Participant has received an Eligible Scholarship. Matching dollars are non-renewable. If the scholarship underlying a Matching Award is renewed, the Matching Award will not be increased. This means the Matching Award will be no larger than the amount paid to a participant by the original scholarship provider in the first year of the award. No Matching Award will exceed the "Amount" listed on the original scholarship listing on the website, and in no event will it exceed $1,000. One Matching Award per person per year. Participation in the Program is not a game of chance. Eligible Scholarships will be awarded to individuals based on criteria set by third-party scholarship providers and not Zinch. The only eligibility criteria to win a Matching Award are those set forth herein. ALL FEDERAL, STATE AND LOCAL TAXES, AND ANY OTHER COSTS AND EXPENSES, ASSOCIATED WITH THE RECEIPT OR USE OF ANY MATCHING AWARD ARE THE SOLE RESPONSIBILITY OF THE WINNER. Awards are provided WITHOUT WARRANTY OF ANY KIND, express or implied, without limitation. Any prize won by an eligible minor will be awarded in the name of a parent or legal guardian.

PAYMENT RULES: Zinch will pay all Matching Awards directly to the accredited college or university of a winning Eligible Participant. Awards will be paid in one lump sum.

CONTINUING ELIGIBILITY: You will be responsible for providing a letter of acceptance from the college or university where the Matching Award will be directed. A Matching Award recipient must remain actively enrolled in a two- or four-year U.S. college or university undergraduate (accredited and listed on the U.S. Department of Education website course of study, full time (at least 12 college credit hours), without interruption, barring illness, emergency, military service, or missions approved by Zinch in order to receive payments. The applicant must then remain enrolled full-time, without interruption, barring illness, emergency, military service, or missions approved by Zinch for the 2012 and/or later academic years, until graduation, to receive each years' matching dollars. Funds may be applied to studies overseas provided that the study is a condition of the recipient's degree plan and that payment continues to be made to the accredited U.S. college or university. If the recipient loses the scholarship, which was the basis for the Matching Award, for any reason, the recipient loses claim to any further matching dollars. The final decision over initial eligibility, and continuing eligibility, for any scholarship under this program lies solely with Chegg.

GENERAL: A potential winner may be required to sign and return an Affidavit of Eligibility, a Liability Release, and, where legal, a Publicity Release. By entering, participants (1) agree to be bound by the official rules and the decisions of the Chegg which are final and binding in all respects; (2) agree to release Chegg and its employees and agents from any and all liability, loss, damage or injury resulting from participation in the Program or awarding, receipt, possession use and/or misuse of any prize awarded herein and acknowledge that Chegg and its employees and agents have neither made nor are in any manner responsible or liable for any warranty, representation, or guarantee, express or implied, in fact or in law, relative to any award; and (3) consent to use of his/her name, photograph and/or likeness for advertising and promotional purposes in connection with the Program without additional compensation, unless prohibited by law.

DISPUTES: This Program, these Official Rules, and any dispute related thereto (whether for breach of contract, tortious conduct or otherwise) are governed by the laws of the State of California without regard to conflicts of laws principles. Any legal action, suit, proceeding or dispute in connection with this Program (whether for breach of contract, tortious conduct or otherwise) will be brought and resolved exclusively in the state or federal courts of Santa Clara County in the State of California and each entrant accepts and submits to the personal jurisdiction of these courts with respect to any legal actions, suits, proceedings or disputes arising out of or related to this Program. If any provision(s) of these Rules are held to be invalid or unenforceable, all remaining provisions hereof will remain in full force and effect.

Except where prohibited, as a condition of participating in this Program, each entrant agrees that any and all disputes that cannot be resolved between the entrant and any Released Party, claims and causes of action arising out of or connected with this Program, the prize awarded, or the determination of the winner must be resolved individually, without resort to any form of class action. Further, in any such dispute, under no circumstances will an entrant be permitted or entitled to obtain an award for, and hereby waives all rights to claim punitive, incidental, or consequential damages, or any other damages, including attorneys' fees, other than entrant's actual out-pocket expenses (if any), not to exceed ten dollars ($10), and entrant further waives all rights to have damages multiplied or increased.
In the event of a dispute concerning the identity of a participant, the participant will be declared to be the authorized account holder of the e-mail address provided to Zinch at the time of initial participation (i.e., application for the scholarship), but only if that person meets all other eligibility criteria, otherwise the entry may be disqualified and any potential prize won will be forfeited in Chegg's sole discretion. An authorized account holder is defined as the natural person who is assigned to an e-mail address by an Internet access provider, online service provider, or other organization (e.g., business, educational institution, etc.) that is responsible for assigning e-mail addresses for the domain associated with the submitted e-mail address. Potential winner may be required to provide Chegg with proof that he or she is the authorized account holder of the applicable e-mail address. If a dispute cannot be resolved to Chegg's satisfaction, the entry and individual or individuals may be deemed ineligible in Chegg's sole discretion.

CONDUCT: By registering for this Program, entrants agree to be bound by these Official Rules and the decisions of Chegg and the judges that shall be final and binding in all respects. Failure to comply with these Official Rules may result in disqualification. Chegg reserves the right at its sole discretion to disqualify any individual suspected of tampering with the entry process or the operation of the Program; or to be acting in any manner deemed by Chegg to be in violation of the Official Rules; or to be acting in any manner deemed by Chegg to be unsportsmanlike or disruptive, or with intent to annoy, abuse, threaten or harass any other person. CAUTION: ANY ATTEMPT BY A USER OR ENTRANT OR ANY OTHER INDIVIDUAL TO DELIBERATELY DAMAGE ANY WEB SITE OR UNDERMINE THE LEGITIMATE OPERATION OF THE PROGRAM IS A VIOLATION OF CRIMINAL AND CIVIL LAWS AND SHOULD SUCH AN ATTEMPT BE MADE, CHEGG RESERVES THE RIGHT TO SEEK DAMAGES AND COSTS (INCLUDING WITHOUT LIMITATION, ATTORNEYS' FEES) FROM ANY SUCH PERSON TO THE FULLEST EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW.

LIMITATIONS OF LIABILITY: Chegg assumes no responsibility or liability for (a) any incorrect or inaccurate entry information, or for any faulty, failed, garbled or jumbled electronic data transmissions; (b) any unauthorized access to, or theft, destruction or alteration of entries at any point in the operation of this Program; (c) any technical malfunction, failure, error, omission, interruption, deletion, defect, delay in operation or communications line failure, regardless of cause, with regard to any equipment, systems, networks, lines, satellites, servers, computers or providers utilized in any aspect of the operation of the Program; (d) inaccessibility or unavailability of the Internet or any combination thereof, or; (e) any injury or damage to participant's or to any other person's computer which may be related to or resulting from any attempt to participate in the Program or download any materials in the Program. If, for any reason, the Program is not capable of running as planned for reasons which may include without limitation, infection by computer virus, bugs, tampering, unauthorized intervention, fraud, technical failures, or any other causes which may corrupt or affect the administration, security, fairness, integrity or proper conduct of this Program, then Chegg reserves the right at its sole discretion to cancel, terminate, modify or suspend the Program in whole or in part. In the event of cancellation, Chegg may suspend matching payments and award monies, up to the aggregate $50,000 award total, to those eligible and valid entries received prior to cancellation.

MISCELLANEOUS: Chegg reserves the right to modify the Program if fraud or any other factor beyond Chegg's reasonable control impairs the integrity of the Program as determined by Chegg in its sole discretion.
