UC Santa Barbara (UCSB) Class of 2001
Asst Dir of Admissions @ UC Santa Barbara
My name is Cuca Acosta. I am the Assistant Director in the Office of Admissions in charge of freshman admission services for UC Santa Barbara. I am the first and only person in my family to graduate from college. I have a B.A. in Philosophy after spending four wonderful years at UCSB. (I can still remember my graduation ceremony; the sun was bright over the water as my name was called, Chancellor Yang handed me my degree and shook my hand. I then looked out to see my mama crying!) I went on to receive a M.A. fromDuquesne University in Leadership and Liberal Studies.

I think education is important and I believe that everyone should have the
chance to earn their college degree. My parents never went to school, they
were not allowed. Education was important to them; my mother told me daily
that education is the key to success and I believed her. Today my job at
UCSB is to help students through the college admissions process, from
understanding admissions requirements to filling out a UC application. It's
a scary process and I want to help!

My goals in life are simple: 1. Try to be a better person today than I was
yesterday. 2. Help students find a home at UCSB. 3. See the world -
Travel, Travel, Travel! & 4. Clean and organize my office!
