VFS is a post-secondary entertainment arts school that has provided students with a unique one-year educational model, and a life-changing experience, for over 20 years. VFS’s 13 programs cover all of the entertainment arts: Film Production, Animation & Visual Effects, Acting for Film & Television, Digital Design, Entertainment Business Management, Game Design, Makeup Design for Film & Television, Sound Design for Visual Media, Writing for Film & Television, and Foundation Visual Art & Design.

Alumni have won Oscars, Emmys, and Spirit Awards, and have worked on hit films like WALL-E, Iron Man, The Dark Knight, and the highly-anticipated District 9, directed by grad Neill Blomkamp.

Most popular events Student life at Vancouver Film School is very unique. In studying to become entertainment industry professionals, VFS students dedicate the majority of their intensive year to their chosen craft. However, there are many events to help students build their professional networks, gain additional knowledge about the industry, develop skills, or just relax and meet new people: - Industry Speakers - Sketch Comedy - Cold Reading Series - Halloween Costume Contest - Karaoke - Makeup Swap Meet - Immigration Workshops - Stress Workshops VFS also presents large industry events such as the annual Game Design Expo, and this past year’s Screenwriters Summit.

* Prominent Alumni/ae

- 3D Animation & Visual Effects grad Neill Blomkamp directed and co-wrote 2009’s District 9, produced by Peter Jackson. - 3D grad Alec McClymont won an Emmy award for his effects work on the series Battlestar Galactica, while fellow grad Lino DiSalvo was a lead animator on the film Bolt as well as the voice of Vinnie the Pigeon. - Actors Niall Matter (The Best Years Watchmen), Magda Apanowicz (Kyle XY, Caprica), and Tara Spencer-Nairn (Corner Gas) are among the many Acting for Film & Television grads to forge successful careers. - Classical Animation’s Andrew Overtoom was nominated for two Emmys for his work as Animation Director on SpongeBob SquarePants. - Digital Character Animation alum Chad Moffitt was a key creative contributor on the Oscar-winning animation team behind the Lord of the Rings trilogy. - Game Design grad Armando Troisi is Lead Cinematic Designer on BioWare’s highly-anticipated Mass Effect 2. - Producer Scott Mosier and Cinematographer David Klein are two of Kevin Smith’s oldest collaborators, having worked closely with him on such films as Clerks, Chasing Amy, and Dogma. - Film Production grad Katherine Walker is a producer in Los Angeles, and was twice nominated for Emmys for The Apprentice. - Portland-based Film Production grad Neil Kopp won a 2008 Independent Spirit Award, in part for producing Gus Van Sant’s Paranoid Park. - Sound Design for Visual Media alumni Jeremy Bowker and Jessica Lemes da Silva work at Skywalker Sound. Their Their many credits include Horton Hears a Who!, Enchanted, Iron Man, and Beowulf. - Sound Design grad Joseph Lawrence is Lead Sound Designer at Blizzard Entertainment and has worked on several of Blizzard’s AAA game titles.
