I am absolutely in love with NYU and would love to know more about your financial aid opportunities and if you offer NYU-specific scholarships? Also, is there a place on your website or online forum where I might be able to find more in regards to the average SAT/ACT scores of students admitted?

I had a campus tour of NYU on July 6th and simply fell in love. After spending six days in the city itself I know NYU is perfect for me! I might not be able to afford NYU for all four years of undergrad, but I know I'll be coming to New York and NYU some time soon for school - and I can't wait!

I notice now that my message may have been said a little harshly. What I meant to say was that I love NYU. However, I might not be able to go becasue of the weak FA. It would be uniwse to be in debt at the start of life. But if I manage to get enough scholarships, then Ill definitely apply!

I want to go. But thanks to the bad financial aid that everyone tells me about, concerning NYU, I might not apply in fear of going to major debt.

It would be a dream if NYU could be like the Ivy Leagues in terms of FA.

Academics

Honestly, the teachers and professors vary. I have had some good ones, but I think the not-so-good may outnumber the good. But the TAs are generally good. They definitely help and are available whenever you need them to be.

Athletics

Varsity sports aren't a huge deal at NYU because we are Division III, but the school puts on Tear It Up games that offer free T-shirts and food for the students who attend the games. We have nice gyms and athletic areas. Intramural sports are a great way to get involved since anyone who wants to can play.

Campus Dining

The food on campus is very good! There are so many options for food while on the meal plan. There are many traditional-style dining halls where you can eat all you wish. There are also food courts with Chick-fil-A, Quiznos, and many different food options. You can do a meal exchange at Dunkin' Donuts, as well.

Campus Housing

The dorms at NYU are nice. Third North is great if you're into living with a lot of people. The location is awesome, giving you a nice walk to campus but separating you just enough to force you to explore the city on your own. The dining hall and laundry areas are very convenient. It is nice but dangerous having a kitchen in your rooms, and common areas are a lot of fun. Brittany is awesome if you like closet space and your roommate. There is carpeting, and it's a nice place to chill.

Campus Strictness

I don't think the campus police is too strict, but this doesn't mean it's easy to get away with things. For example, if students are found with drugs on campus, it is dealt with internally instead of actually involving the city police.

Computers

The computer labs, especially those with free printing, are usually crowded during weekdays. Having your own computer is most convenient, especially as it is hard to find free computers in the library.

Diversity

It's mostly white and American, though there are plenty of students who I have met from around the world. I have friends from India, Korea, and other countries. There is also a large Jewish population, though it is of the reformed sect. It is a very liberal campus, and the few conservatives are usually afraid to speak out because the liberals are very stubborn. There is also a very high gay population, so there are very few heterosexual men compared to heterosexual females.

Drug Scene

There is definitely a drug culture at NYU that you have to be aware of. If you are into it, you can easily find yourself right in the middle of that scene. If you are not into it, it can easily be avoided. You’ll definitely notice it, though, there’s no getting around it. There are drug dealers right in front of the dorms in Washington Square Park, but the NYPD does their best to crack down on that. As far as drug safety is concerned, though, it’s not like you’re gonna trip and fall right into a bong! Just don’t let peer pressure get to you.

Facilities

The library is huge and very nice. NYU offers free printing labs throughout the campus, which are very convenient. There are two gyms, though Palladium is nicer than Coles.

Greek Life

The closest thing I’ve witnessed to Greek life is getting on the bus with one random guy in a fraternity jacket. So it’s safe to say it’s not there unless you look for it.

Guys & Girls

There is no typical NYU student. There are very attractive guys and girls, and very unattractive ones, too. There are many homosexuals on campus, so this is something to be aware of no matter your sexual preference.

Local Atmosphere

You're right in the heart of Greenwich Village, there's always going to be something to do. Things can be expensive, but they can also be really inexpensive also. I don't give it an A+ because if you want to go out you either have to find a promoter or a fake I.D.

Nightlife

Parties on campus are kept to a minimum. There are too many security guards and grumpy students that are likely to be disturbed. It is best to take your fun out onto the streets of New York and experience some of the great nightlife.

Off-Campus Dining

Delicious! Okay, so it is New York City, and you have a limitless number of options. There are plenty of strictly vegan places, too. But seriously, everything is so good. I especially recommend Max Brenner, Veselka, and Silver Spurs. Oren's is great for coffee. Wow, I could go on pretty much forever.

Off-Campus Housing

Off-campus housing is difficult to secure in Manhattan, at least for a good rate. There is plenty of housing available on campus, and it is generally not worth moving off campus.

Overall Experience

I just graduated, and I miss it already. The academics are great, and as for student life, I commuted for all but one semester and regret having done so. I wish I had lived in the dorms the entire time. NYU is a great school, and NYC is a great city. I would definitely recommend coming here. If it is what you are looking for—it’s great!

Parking

Parking can be rough to find. If you’re only staying for the evening, then be ready to grab a spot at 6 p.m. That’s when most of the spots free up. Otherwise, be prepared to pay up some cold, hard cash.

Safety & Security

NYU is pretty safe. There are some dorm thefts, but it's really rare. NYU has to have good security being in NYC. Having guards at every entrance of buildings and the swipe system are all very good.

Transportation

Public transportation is amazing in NYC! The subway is cheap and easy to figure out, along with buses running all the time. If you are in a real rush, cab fares are cheap when splitting between a few people.

Weather

It rains frequently at NYU, but it doesn't snow too much. It is not too cold for very long, although I am comparing to Wisconsin. There is a nice contrast between winter and summer. The park is beautiful all throughout the year.
