- 694A 3.8 GPA is a good start! CMC has a holistic admission process, so we evaluate applicants based on a combination of academic and personal factors, including GPA, test scores, and extracurricular activities. We put a lot of emphasis on leadership, in particular.

- 694Well, not for Africa specifically...but we do offer both merit-based and need-based aid for international students.

- 694Unfortunately, your associate's degree would not transfer for credit at Claremont McKenna College because you took the classes for the degree during your high school years.

- 694Actually, we give out scholarships everywhere - west coast, east coast, and everywhere in between. In fact, thanks to our need-blind admission policy and our commitment to meeting 100% of a student's need, any student who is admitted will receive the financial aid they need to afford 4 years at CMC. We also offer merit scholarships. You can learn more about those here: http://www.cmc.edu/admission/scholarships/

- 694CMC has a holistic admission process that takes academic ability, involvement, leadership, and personal qualities into account. Academic ability is definitely not the sole factor on which admission decisions are based.

- 694CMC's Admission Office offers information sessions and tours throughout the year, so you can visit any time. Visiting during the academic year (Sept-Dec & Jan-May) can be nice because students are on campus and classes are in session, so you can see our campus in action. A couple other considerations. First, interviews are available starting in May of a student's junior year. If you want to be able to interview during your visit, you would need to visit after May 1, 2013. We also offer alumni interviews in cities around the world (including Denver), so if you do not interview during your visit, you will have other opportunities. Second, overnight stays with current students are available during a student's senior year. Hope that helps!

- 694CMC is very selective, so it's difficult to give specific qualifications. Our admission process is holistic, so we put a lot of value on non-academic factors like extracurricular involvement, leadership, and social skills. I would say that the best way to maximize your chances of admission is to maintain a strong academic record (by taking a full load of rigorous classes and getting good grades in those classes), score well on standardized tests, find meaningful ways to get involved, and look for ways to take on greater responsibility in the things you are involved in. - 192Not that often, actually. CMC's campus is a 45-minute drive to the nearest beach and over an hour to some of the top marine biology research facilities. We have strong on-campus research facilities, but if marine biology is your primary focus and it is important to you want to have lots of research opportunities on the coast, we are probably not the best option.

- 694Cross-enrollment is pretty simple. When you register for classes each semester, you are given a booklet that list all the classes offered at the five undergraduate colleges in Claremont. Most classes are open to any student at the five colleges, and because the colleges are directly across the street from each other, it is really easy to take advantage of the opportunity. A very small number have limited enrollment for students who do not attend the college where the class is being taught, but that is not typical. When you register for your classes, you do that through your home campus, even when you are registering for a class at a different college. Priority for classes is typically based on seniority. When you take a class at another college, the grades and credits automatically transfer to your home campus. At CMC, students can take approximately 1/3 of their total classes at the other colleges if they wish. Most students end up taking 10-20% of their classes "off-campus." I think that about covers it...let me know if you have any other questions about cross-enrollment. As for a change in major, this usually does not require transferring between the colleges. At CMC we allow students to complete major through the other colleges, so it is possible (and not all that rare) for a student to graduate from CMC with a degree in a major that is only offered by another Claremont College. For instance, we do not have a music program on our campus, but we have a handful of students who major in music (through Scripps) every year. Most of those students also have another major based at CMC, but that is not a requirement. Hope that helps! Let us know if you have any further questions.
