Claremont McKenna College (CMC) is one of the leading liberal arts colleges in the United States and is known for combining a classical liberal arts and sciences curriculum with a particular emphasis on the fields of economics and government and how they relate to current issues.
By combining the intellectual breadth of the liberal arts with the pragmatic concerns of public affairs, CMC helps students acquire the vision, skills, and values they will need to become leaders in society. Moreover, to support faculty and student scholarship, CMC houses 10 on-campus research institutes, offering students and faculty unique opportunities to merge research, teaching and learning in several fields of study.
CMC is part of a The Claremont Colleges, a group of five undergraduate colleges (including CMC, Harvey Mudd College, Pitzer College, Pomona College, and Scripps College) and two graduate institutions. Based on the Cambridge/Oxford model, The Claremont Colleges represent the only planned consortium in the United States and serve more than 7,000 students, who have access to diverse opportunities and resources typically only found at much larger universities. Students at the undergraduate colleges benefit from cross-registration, which allows them to enroll in courses at the other colleges. As a result, CMC students are able to choose from approximately 2,500 courses each year and can pursue more than 50 majors.
Despite being one of the youngest colleges in the country, CMC is recognized as one of America’s best colleges, with top rankings for our academic program, access to faculty, career preparation, starting salary, and student happiness. Our alumni have bolstered that recognition through their successes in business, politics, law, medicine, and other fields. Impressively, 75 percent of CMC graduates go on to advanced degrees at prestigious institutions and one in eight graduates now holds a position in top management.
