During the summer of 2009, I witnessed the overwhelming problems facing the women and children of Uganda while visiting a family friend. Kampala alone has 10,000 orphaned children living on the streets. On the 22-hour flight home, I made a plan to turn my vacation into a vocation: getting children off the streets and out of wars. I landed in Los Angeles with a plan: to create a micro-business to sell the unique handmade jewelry. My micro business, “Beauty 4 Life,” sells Ugandan jewelry to provide women with a sustainable income so they can get their children off the streets.
