Andrew Cloward
Follow messageI live in the far north, in an igloo, where I ride my pet polar bear to school everyday. Just kidding. Alaska has been my home ever since I was born, in anchorage. When I was about 14 years old, my family moved out of the interior to Seward, where I have spent my entire high school career. It is a beautiful place, and it is a running town; as soon as I started going to school I was sucked into their cross country program. Though, soccer has always been my favorite sport--despite Seward's poor program. Painting, writing, dancing, and acting are all passions of mine, and I am going to pursue it
Extracurricular
- Student Council
- Student council has always been a part of my life. In 8th grade I was the president of my middle school, and have since then been a member at large in Seward High School. College bound, I am still keeping an eye on future student government opportunities,
- Theatre
- For the past three years, I have participated in three school performances, all of which I don't regret doing. It is fun and exciting the moment you step on stage, and even more gratifying when you hear the melody of applause.
- Dance productions
- In middle school, I have been in four dance productions. Arabian Nights, The Christmas Angel, The Alaskan Tale, and A Gangsters Story are all performances that I have participated in. Sadly enough, the day I was moving to Seward, my dance instructor offer
- helped paint a mural in memory of a student
- This was one of the biggest projects in our school. One of the students had died that summer, and we wanted to make a mural in memory of him. I ended up painting an aurora suspended over the mountains
- contributed to build community playground
- These three hours I spent building the community playground were strenuous. Hauling giant logs, shoveling cement in holes, and sawing wood all were chores I completed in such a small time-frame.
- Halloween Carnival
- For two years, I had the experience as Activities director to coordinate a halloween booth for the local carnival. The first year we painted faces, and this year, we decorated cookies.
- painting spirit mural for Seward High School
- Ever Since being an Activities Director, I've noticed the low level of spirit in our school. I want to make this mural to rekindle the students' pride in our school by making this mural. Not finished.
- Filmed and Produced Cross-Country Video
- It is tradition that somebody creates a cross-country video to show at the end of the season. Usually, it is the manager's job, but in 11th grade, I ended up being in the sport and filming.
- Filmed and interviewed KPC Students
- The Kenai Peninsula College asked me to film and interview high school students who were taking college classes under their instruction. Later on, a KPC official told me that my work was exceptional.
- Varsity soccer team
- My junior year in soccer last was tough, seeing how I was a captain and other seniors were not. A lot of seniors were pretty upset about this; many of them chose not to come to practice afterwards, or even listen to me. But I had to keep trying to lead th
- Activities Director
- The Activities Director position felt like the President's position. I had to coordinate many of the school dances, host the pep-rallies, and lead school-wide activities to promote spirit. This was perhaps one of the most difficult times of high school, i
- Breeze-Inn Food Drive
- Though this was a local food-drive, the Breeze-Inn Hotel asked student council to help coordinate the food-drive within the school. With enthusiasm, our leadership class--a class of 5 people--embraced this challenge helped donate over 300 pounds of food t
Experience
- Cashier, Gas Attendant
- Shoreside Petroleum
- 2006 to 2009
- Fishing is one of the most popular jobs in the peninsula, so somebody has to be there to fill their boat up to get the job done. My job entailed helping dock a dozen boats at a time, safely, and efficiently. Then, I would type out receipts, cast them off,
- ice cream scooper
- Harbor Street Creamery
- 2006 to 2006
- Okay laugh if you want, but this job was more difficult than dealing with angry fishermen. Trust me, when it is a hot day, and people are sweating in line for five minutes, things can get nasty. It was hard enough enduring the summer heat, but hearing the

- Movies:
My favorite actor is Christian Bale, and one of the movies he acted in stole the lead in my favorite movies list. Equilibrium is about how human emotion is illegal, and the protagonist undergoes a dynamic change from living without feeling, to fighting fo
- TV Shows:
I have never had the luxury to have satellite T.V. Though, in eighth grade, on the way to Anchorage for a soccer game, one of my friends brought Lost with them. Ever since then, I have been a fan of the show. I knew that it was all about time travel too!
- Music:
Techno! This is by far the funnest music to dance to. It is energetic, upbeat, and fast! Of course, there has to be a happy medium when listening to music. On the other side of the spectrum, I listen to soft classical, usually when I am writing, to help m

Myspace is a given. I think every teen knows what myspace is; sometimes, I can't stop pressing the 'home' button because I love seeing the 'new message' or 'new comment' icon appear on my page.

D.H Lawrence has a powerful quote about self-pity

I admit, I enjoyed the Harry Potter series. It was an easy read, but it goes deep into the corruption of government and importance of the moral code. Dune is also a favorite. Science fiction writers have a keen sense of vision and it is fun to see how bou
