Fear used to be my master. I now work every day to overcome my anxiety and prove that it doesn't matter how scared you are, as long as you do the things you want to do. I forgot who said it, but I once read a quote that said, "Courage isn't the absence of fear. Courage is being scared out of your mind and getting on the horse anyway."
Last week, I tried to backflip into a pit of rubber foam squares in gymnastics. I screamed the whole way, and then I got out and laughed and laughed and laughed.
I'm a work-in-progress. But I'll get there, I promise.
Extracurricular
- Yearbook
- Yearbook is not a class. It's a lifestyle. Yearbook made me discover what I wanted to major in (Fine Arts/Graphic Design), and aside from writing, it's definitely my favorite activity. I have been a staff member, a section editor, and after 3 years of sla
- Drama Club
- I have performed in our school production of "A Midsummer Night's Dream," and I have also been involved with the production of "1940's Radio Hour," and "Who's On First." Even considering all the drama in the drama department (pun), it was good times.
- Destination Imagination
- I've been involved in D.I. since 7th grade. We've had the honor of going to the state competition each year. We D.I. teammates have a sort of awkward, family-like relationship that is both dysfunctional and rewarding. Despite the stress, and the times whe
- Hazards of Tobacco (H.O.T.)
- Being involved in H.O.T. has given me the opportunity to visit middle schools and educate 6th graders about the dangers of using tobacco. It's a lot of fun. It taught me that I'm actually pretty good with kids, which is something that I never thought abou
- Cheerleading
- I have been on the freshman and junior varsity cheerleading squads. I still miss it, strangely.
- Powderpuff football (flag)
- I have participated in the annual Powderpuff flag football game during my junior and senior years. During my senior year, I was made a defensive captain. It was one of the highlights of my senior year. Our games always get pretty intense, too. Some girl t
- Piano Keyboard
- I am by no means proficient, but this year I have taken up piano keyboarding, something I've wanted to do for a while. I'm very excited to learn piano. I think it's gorgeous.
- Church
- I've been involved with the Waterford Community church for 7 years. I've been in a few other churches, but none of the others quite compare to the friendliness and acceptance you feel at WCC.
- Hurricane Katrina relief
- I have gone with my church to Ocean Springs, Missisippi on two separate occasions to help with Hurricane Katrina relief. Each trip was a week long, and we worked 8 hours a day, except sunday.
- 30 Hour Famine
- We raised money for hungry individuals, volunteered at Grace Centers of Hope in Pontiac, MI, and during that time, did not eat for 30 hours.
- Yearbook
- I've worked my way up in the yearbook hierarchy, going from staff member, to section editor, to my current position of associate editor-in-chief. In general, I help the staff improve their writing, help with any problems, help create deadlines, edit proof
Experience
- Cashier
- Burger King

Honors & Awards
I've been honored with two 1st places and two second places from the Michigan Interscholastic Press Association (or MIPA, for short. It's pretty much the Yearbook/Newspaper Mecca) for accomplishments in Yearbook design and writing. You should see the pict
Specialties & Skills
I specialize in being ridiculous and making people laugh, but my other professional skills include writing, designing, copy editing, organizing, interacting with and sometimes managing other people. I'm also highly skilled at picking things up with my toe
