About me: As a student who has been focused on college since elementary school I strive to obtain any opportunity I can to better myself for the collegic world. Throughout the year I hold a part-time job and in the summer Intern for UPENN under a Genetic Counselor. I am also the President of my local chapter of FBLA, and am actively involved in over 20 organizations within my school. Through my experiences I have learned that in every situation you get out what you put in, and that if you you believe you are doing something that can contribute to the world and better it thats all that matters.

Activities: FBLA President, Student Council, Peer Mediation, Senior Mentor, Advisory Board, Hatters Included, Relay for Life, Intern at UPENN, Working, Producer of Children's High School Musical, Publicity Officer for Theatre Club, Musicals, National Honor Society, School Newspaper,Cappies Journalism,Model UN

How would I move Mount Fuji: "Doubt makes the mountain that faith can move." When coming upon a near impossible task it takes a multitude of characteristics to succeed. One needs perserverance. You'll never achieve a goal without the will to perservere, the faith, innovation and will power to know that anything is possible.

Desert Vista High School | Class of 2008 | phoenix, Arizona, USA

About me: Hi my name is Noelle, nice to e-meet you! People are my passion. Jesus is my source. My father grew up in Battambang during the reign of the Khmer Rouge, an extremist communist party that executed millions of people. His experiences have shown me the fragility and beauty of each individual life. I just want to love the lost, the lonely, the homeless, the hopeless, the unclean, the suffering, the poor, and the oppressed. My goal is to travel to Cambodia and work with the orphans there. I am truly blessed to live such an abundant life and i believe it is my purpose to bless the lives of others

Activities: transit apparel designer/cofounder, orchestra, piano, bass, worship leader, asian student union vp, webdesign, painting, spending time with the homeless and elderly, sunday school teacher, art teacher, relay for life, blind children's foundation, asian LEAD, youth group president, johns hopkins CTY

How would I move Mount Fuji: I would find another mountain and name it Mt. Fuji. :)

Erica's been waiting for this opportunity (ok focused on college, not necessarily our scholarship) since she was young. Noelle's passion runs deep though, so I'm excited to see this play out.

Both seem to be prime candidates, although I will have to go with Noelle on this one. Her passion is unmatched and sincere. While Erica has an impressive resume (and I'm sure Noelle as well), I would've liked to see her express her goals and passions as opposed to just give us a resume. Noelle has my vote.

While Noelle obviously has great passion for her work and a strong faith, Erica is simply a better candidate. While passion and faith are important, scholarships are intended to reward students who have worked hard-- Additionally, while she may not verbalize it here- Erica's faith and passion are evident to all who know her.

I've known Erica since she was 3, she has high morals and has worked two jobs while doing all those activities. She wants to get into genetics and has interned already. She really needs this money to get her into college. I know one day Erica will work towards finding the cure for alzhiemers , and other diseases. GO ERICA!!!

All young adults heading off to college are deserving of this scholarship. However, I have known Erica her entire life and truly feel that she deserves this scholarship. Since she was a little girl she's shown unfaltering determination, for the things she wants in life. She wants this! So, simply put, VOTE FOR ERICA!

Go Erica!!!

Although I admire Noelle's passion, Erica is the better candidate. I've known her for a long time and she not only has impressed me on a professional level but she has more heart than anyone I've ever interacted with. Though she didn't verbalize her passions here, I'm pretty sure that's because knowing her she ran out of room haha! Go Erica!

Hey guys, Thanks for the votes, and the comments. I appreciate all of the wonderful words and am definitely appreciative. Noelle is a great match and her passion is incredible. While I may not have written all that I am passionate about I assure you my drive is my strongest trait. Good Luck Noelle! Thanks again everyone! -Erica

I have know Erica l my life and she i has many passions, she is depply religiuos and very invloved in her faith and her church to this day, Her goal is to be gentic counselor so she can help family's with genetic defects and help prevent the, Her entire goal is to have a career where she can be of service to better improve the world.

As a member of the church community where Erica still to this day is a lay reader I can promise you that this girl has faith, passion and values that are remarkable in a girl her age and always has. Just because her academic goals have been mentioned don't think she is lacking in faith or her community service to others.

over 20 organizations at school...that's four a day in the school week. that's a little over a top...yeah? call me a skeptic

Noelle's resume and work throughout school is very impressive, but I love how she mainly included her passions. That's what counts; passion for what you believe in, and in your studies will get you through college no matter what. She has my vote: she'll put the scholarship to better use.

As a friend of Ericas who is involved in many of her activities with her, she actually has been involved in probably more than 20 activities, we voted her most involved for senior class superlatives. And im pretty sure you can be involved in 20 activities per year that dont meet every single day. Shes in STUCO with me and we meet once a month?

I have known Erica for a few years now and can assure you that she has been waiting for this opportunity forever. Her involvement in high school is incredible and she participates in these organizations in addition to holding 2 jobs, working almost every night of the week. She is extremely motivated and hard working and truly deserves this.
Anonymous wrote at 3/13/2008 5:36:25 PM
Though it may not be completely obvious in the blurb provided, Erica is passionate in everything she does, including this. Instead of spending the summer before her senior year "having fun," Erica took on a full-time internship while continuing to work 2 jobs. She really wants to follow her dream of going into genetics so that she can help others.
Anonymous wrote at 3/13/2008 5:42:19 PM
Erica's passion and faith are far from lacking. Though it is not obvious in the profile above, anyone who knows her will agree with me. She is one of the most driven and hard-working people I have met or ever will meet. She has outstanding morals and is active in her church. Erica is truly unique in that she has values shared by few others.

Guys, just because Noelle didn't list the things that she does in school, it doesn't mean that she doesn't participate in extracurricular activities. She obviously thinks that this scholarship should judged based on her character and personality. Isn't that what Zinch focuses on? Getting to know the person and not just the academic profile?
