Have you tried Maximum Ride by James Patterson? It's a really good series and totally not about vampires. It pretty much a group of kids that are 98% human and 2% avian. You should really try it. Plus the chapters are at most 2-3 pages but the books look thick.

Try the Sword of Truth Series by Terry Goodkind. Best fantasy ever! Not like typical fantasy. First book is Wizard's First Rule. Actually pretty philosophical, romantic, and just a plain good read.

Wake and Fade (both by Lisa McMann) are my favorite books of all time! Another very popular book series is The Hunger Games trilogy by Suzanne Collins.
You won't be disappointed! =]

The Five People You Meet in Heaven- by Mitch Albom. it is an extremely powerful book. It has to be my favorite book
basic synopsis... Eddie is a wounded war veteran, an old man who has lived, in his mind, an uninspired life. His job is fixing rides at a seaside amusement park. On his 83rd birthday, a tragic accident kills him as he tries to save a little girl from a falling cart. He awakes in the afterlife, where he learns that heaven is not a destination. It's a place where your life is explained to you by five people, some of whom you knew, others who may have been strangers. One by one, from childhood to soldier to old age, Eddie's five people revisit their connections to him on earth, illuminating the mysteries of his "meaningless" life, and revealing the haunting secret behind the eternal question: "Why was I here?"

If you haven't found 1 million and one great books to read i'd suggest something by Mitch Albom. He's a great author and doesn't write about vampires. Tuesdays with Morrie is super emotional and Have a little faith is emotional and faith based. So happy book hunting. I myself have a list of books that will possibly last well into January-February. *sigh*A nerds work is never done...

If you want something that you won't want to put down once you start reading, may I suggest The Inheritance trilogy by Chris Paolini. Or, if dragons and magic don't suit your tastes, try any book by Ted Dekker. He's a Christian author who writes amazing thriller books that instantly captivate you.

You should defintely read The Stranger by Albert Camus, its not about vampires, and its my favorite book. It describes what a true individualist is through use of Existentialism ( i'll explain that if you plan on reading the book). I know you'll love it if your looking for an attention grabber. .. the first sentence of the book is, " my mom died today, or was it yesterday, I dont know."

Copied from my GaiaOnline profile:
1. Little Brother by Cory Doctorow. An in-depth look at the power of the media, Guatanamo Bay, and the internet effect. After being tortured for being at the wrong place at the wrong time, a teenage hacker focuses on exposing the corruption of the justice system. A free copy is available in pdf on the author's site: http://craphound.com/littlebrother/download/ 2. Unwind by Neal Shusterman. A look at what would happen if a certain unpleasant compromise was made for the issue of abortion. Joining "life begins at conception" and "life begins at birth", a third insight is introduced. 3. Milkweed by Jerry Spinelli Set during the "cleansing" of Jews from Poland, this story tells of a boy who uses his skills for thievery to feed the people in the ghettos, while not having any idea of what's going on. 4. Truancy series by Isamu Fuku In real life, the educational system is adding more restrictions every year. What if it got to the point where it ended up nearly like totalitarianism? A regular boy questions his beliefs when he is caught between a pacifist and a organization of vigilantes. 5. The Shadow Children series by Margaret Peterson Haddix The population is out of control, so the government sets a standard: that every couple will only bear up to two children. Third children are exploited by the media as causes of problems, and many are killed on sight. Starting with a boy named Luke, an underground group begins forming.

"You don't know me" by David Klaus The Sandman series by Neil Gaiman, graphic novels but are very intelligent and well written none the less. The Dark Tower series by Stephen King "Watchmen" by Alan Moore and David Gibbons, another graphic novel but it is actually THE graphic novel, and don't say you've seen the movie, the book is much better!
